Reed Bed Refurbishment, Northern England
The client in Northern England required the re-design and refurbishment of a series of large reed beds which provide tertiary treatment to a food processing plant. The project involved optimising the design of the existing beds to reduce BOD, SS and Ammonia. The re-engineering of the 3,000m2 of reed beds included the removal of large volumes of spoil and cleaning of the gravel media. The refurbishment programme included a Management Report helping the on-site team to maintain consents in future years.

 Anaerobic Digestion of Pig Slurry
With the impending Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ’s) legislation this client required a route to mitigate the impact of the legislation. This Feasibility Study looked at costing and design of an AD system with a capacity of 22,000 tonnes of manure and slurry annually. The project is on-going.

Anaerobic Digestion
Anaerobic Digestion (AD) is presently one of the fastest growing renewable energy technologies. The Government is increasing its Feed In Tariffs and as a result interest is growing. Our experience includes several AD systems from installations at Breweries to Dairy and Distilleries.
This particular client based in Southern Ireland required a Feasibility Study to review the business case for a pig farming collective. The project, following Treatability Testing of biogas yields and design is finalising funding for construction.

Photovoltaic Power Plants on Client Building Portfolio, S.W. England
Convinced by the competitiveness and increasing performance of Photovoltaics (PV) the client engaged the design and construction of ten 10 Kwp roof mounted installations on a part of his commercial building portfolio.
The installation followed a review of the business case which demonstrated attractive pay backs for the installations with significant support from the Feed in Tariffs.
As part of NWS’s service we will always highlight the opportunities that alternative energy has, particularly with clients operating at multiple sites.

 Dairy Effluent, Somerset
The client, one of the largest milk suppliers in the UK required a robust solution to high volume and high concentration waste streams. Following a series of trials a membrane solution was employed to ensure the highest quality effluent. The solution is now being rolled out to other dairies within the clients portfolio.
|
Fill & Drain Reed Bed System, Landfill Site, Dorset.
The client required a low energy solution for the treatment of landfill leachate. Following discussions NWS designed a fill and drain reed bed system utilising the existing gradients on the site. The proposal was then modelled to ensure its compatibility within the sensitive location adjoining an SSSI. The system is the first of its kind in the UK and demonstrates NWS innovative approach to individual problems.
|
 Landfill Leachate, South Wales
The client was challenged by a poorly performing MBR system installed to treat contaminated groundwater. The system was found to be essentially robust and following some simple modifications NWS engineers optimised the system allowing the client to maintain compliance at minimal costs.
|
Photovoltaic Power Plants on Client Building Portfolio
A client with 8 industrial units in his commercial portfolio required a total of 50 Kwp of Photovoltaics (PV) designed and installed in various locations around the South West of England.
For clients with multiple locations, or with buildings spanning different post codes the Feed in Tariff allows attractive pay backs usually resulting in double digit returns. NWS can undertake a full business case assessment quickly and at no costs.
