Anaerobic Digestion

The anaerobic digestion (AD) process is one of converting organic biomass into useful methane and potentially fertiliser. The process is undertaken anaerobically within tanks by naturally occurring micro-organisms.

There is huge potential within the U.K. for AD It has been estimated that 100 million tonnes of organic material produced each year in the U.K. could be used to produce biogas. AD is common within the wastewater sector now but less common in industry and agriculture. NWS scientists and engineers have extensive experience of all types of AD process so we are able to design and construct systems of any size.

The digestate produced from AD can be a useful replacement for inorganic fertiliser, however if required NWS also have extensive knowledge of treating digestate liqueurs for discharge.
